Vic Guo (Zhixuan Guo) is a visual artist working with photography, moving image, interactive work, and digital media.
Her work is about people and the environments around them. She is interested in how people see and understand the world they are in, how they react to it, and how they shape themselves through that process. At the same time, she looks at how people can question, resist, or change the environments that shape them.
Her work often starts with things she sees in everyday life: the way people dress, move, behave in a group, interact with others, or make choices within a certain situation. Fashion, nightlife, youth culture, social groups, and digital spaces all appear in her work, but they are different ways for her to look at the same question: what happens between a person and the world around them?
Guo works between observation and construction. Sometimes she records situations that already exist. Other times, she creates a situation and asks people or viewers to respond to it. This can take the form of a photograph, a film, or an interactive work. Across these different forms, she is interested in immediacy and constructed storytelling, and in how people understand themselves through the situations they are part of.
